Know Your Enemy- The Smackdown Report

Welcome to Know Your Enemy-The Smackdown Report. This week I will look at the Smackdown participants in the Royal Rumble. Those in the Rumble match and the World Heavyweight title match. I like many people really look forward to the Rumble and
it is definitely up there as one of the most anticipated PPVs of the year. The big announcement in regards to this years Rumble was the change from the traditional 30 participants to 40. As of right now 34 participants have been confirmed 13 of
which are rostered to Smackdown, so the odds are against the blue brand having the winner. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes was removed from the list to tie in with his broken nose storyline and not wanting to be seen in public.

The blue brands success rests on 13 Superstars as the other 6 places are probably reserved for Legends and suprise returns. So the possibility of more Smackdown guys been involved is slim. I'll look at each of the guys and offer a prediction of
how they will do.

1. JTG- "Anyone can win the Rumble". This quote is usually spewed about alot from January 1st up until and even during the Rumble. In regards to JTG, sure he is "anyone" but could he be the Royal Rumble winner?...No. JTG will be elimination fodder for Kane or Big Show or anyone who is in the ring with him at the same time.

2. Chris Masters- More along the same lines as JTG. Rumour of a push post Rumble has been mentioned. Why not push him at the Rumble? Stepping on someones toes? I'm not a Masters fan, never have been. But a push post Rumble leading into Chamber and then Mania just seems like it will fade away. Far more other things going on. As far as the Rumble goes he may get a good amount of time in the ring but will lead to nothing.

3. Jack Swagger- Up and down 2010 for Swagger. A strong Rumble showing could benefit him hugely. He has the capabilities to last in the Rumble for a long period of time. I'd say he will not win it but I said he wouldn't win MITB last year at Mania and look what happened there.

4. Kofi Kingston- Current IC champ. Winning potential for Rumble is slim. I see Kofi as IC champ heading into Mania. Kofi in the Rumble has a different role than the aforementioned, Kofi is the guy who'll come up with creative ways in which to stay in the ring etc. Some may say he's "spotty" but its things like that that keeps the Rumble interesting.

5. Rey Mysterio- Similar to Kofi. Rey has a lot of Rumble experience so the likelihood of him being involved for over half an hour is nearly certain. With alot of first timers involved Rey will be a marshall for them and as such important to the Rumble match. Not the winner but paramount to the match.

6. Kane- Like Rey, has vast experience (this will be his twelfth consecutive Rumble I think) so like Rey he'll be used as a general in controlling the pace of the Rumble. Also like Rey I'd rule him out of winning. Kane is kind of in a storyline cul de sac currently. But considering how his previous Title run petered away the possibility of him getting back involved in the title picture with a Rumble win is non existent.

7. Big Show- Show is always portrayed as a favourite to win the Rumble based on his size. But what usually happens is a group of three or four guys gang up and eliminate him. This year should be no different and if I was a betting man I'd be betting on these guys-

8-11. The Corre- Consisting of Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, Ezekiel Jackson and Heath Slater. In Wade Barrett we have in my eyes the first potential Rumble winner for Smackdown. After the year he has had he has to be considered as such. What is more likely though for Barrett is similar to what happened Kane 7 years ago (look it up). As for the other Corre members its storyline progression for them. Odds are members of the Corre will interact with the Nexus. This will make the Rumble interesting as its an arc that could run throughout the Rumble. The plan is to have the two factions fued well into the summer so this will be a good place to start it.

12. Drew McIntyre- Potential dark horse. Drew could benefit himself with a good showing. He seems to be on the cusp of the main event scene and a strong showing could help him no end. "The Chosen One" gimmick needs to be validated and winning the Rumble could do it.

13. Alberto Del Rio- I left ADR until last as I believe out of those announced for the Rumble match for Smackdown he is my choice for the winner. The reasons are obvious. His star and reputation has risen not just with every match he has had but with every appearance he has made. In 6 short months he has become a lynchpin for
Smackdown. If they are going with a face champion on Smackdown it is between ADR and Dolph Ziggler for number 1 contender. ADR could seal this with the Rumble win.

As for the World Title match, I mentioned before in my previous column how I thought it would go. If that comes to be and Edge does win don't be suprised to see Dolph pull a double shift and be entered into the Rumble (via Vickie). If that happens
Dolph could be a potential winner especially if he comes in with number 40. Also he has been having alot of interaction with both Edge and Randy Orton (possible WWE Champion after Rumble). That way he could viably choose either title and it would
make sense.

This years Rumble is setting up to be one of the more unpredictable ones. Hopefully it will live up to expectation. More importantly hopefully it will see the continuation and strenghtening of the youth movement.

Brock Lesnar was interviewed by Yahoo to promote the new season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series today.

When asked about the Undertaker-Wrestlemania rumors, Lesnar said, "That thing just took on a life of its own. I'm a fighter. There wasn't anything there. I never pursued anything, no."

SmackDown, Airing January 28th on SyFy:

* Vickie Guerrero came out like usual but was interrupted by Randy Orton to a big ovation. Orton asked Vickie to excuse him for what he was going to do to her boyfriend tonight and for taking the WWE Title from The Miz. Dolph Ziggler came out and demanded respect for him and his girlfriend. Orton ended it with an RKO to Ziggler.

* Layla and Michelle McCool beat Kelly Kelly and Kaitlyn. Kelly and Kaitlyn attacked LayCool during their entrance but McCool got the quick win by pinning Kaitlyn.

* Drew McIntyre beat JTG with the Future Shock DDT. Kelly Kelly stayed out for commentary on the match and looked on at Drew from the ring as he left after winning.

* Todd Grisham interviews Cody Rhodes backstage. Cody keeps his back turned the whole time because Rey Mysterio broke his nose last week. Doctors won't let Cody compete and he no longer feels dashing.

* Backstage interview with Edge talking about The Corre and teaming with Orton.

* We see Alberto Del Rio introduce himself to Michael Tarver backstage.

* Kofi Kingston won a battle royal by eliminating Alberto Del Rio and Kane last. Kane and Del Rio came back in but Rey Mysterio came to make the save. Vickie Guerrero came out to announce Del Rio and Kane vs. Kofi and Rey.

* Mysterio and Kingston beat Del Rio and Kane in a great match. Kane ended up hitting Del Rio and leaving. Rey and Kofi hit their finishers on Del Rio and Kofi got the pin to win the match.

* Big Show came out to talk about The Corre and the Royal Rumble. The Corre came out to surround the ring and Show challenged them which led to a match with Slater. Show won with a chokeslam. After the match, The Corre came in to attack until RAW and SmackDown stars made the save.

* Edge and Randy Orton defeat The Miz and Dolph Ziggler when Edge hits the spear on Ziggler. After the match, Vickie Guerrero says the spear is banned. If Edge uses it at the Royal Rumble, Dolph Ziggler automatically wins and gets the World Title.

Report: Ric Flair Leaves TNA's UK Tour

Ric Flair missed today's TNA house show event in Berlin, Germany after sources within the company claimed that, "Flair was refusing to get on the plane to Germany".
There were a number of stories making the rounds as to what the exact issue was, but TNA sources have confirmed there was some sort of blow-up between Flair and a member of TNA Management in Dublin, Ireland.

"He threw a fit," said the source, who would speak only under condition of anonymity. "He was playing 'Nature Boy' on the tour and got pissed off and threw a tantrum. As far as we all know, he's in Dublin still. He said he wasn't coming and he wasn't in Berlin."

The Ric Flair incident in Dublin, Ireland was said to have been driven by Flair demanding money "in advance" from a member of TNA management. When his request wasn't granted, Flair allegedly tried to play hardball, refusing to get on a bus that was taking the TNA troupe to the airport for their flight. That incident led to a decision being made to leave Flair behind, since he was refusing to get on the plane

We begin this week’s Raw with the World Champion from Smackdown. Edge makes his way to the ring. Edge puts his title belt on the turnbuckle and then he tells Miz that he does not feel like waiting tonight. He takes off his shirt to reveal taped ribs. Edge says that he doesn’t have a lot of patience. He doesn’t like waiting at the DMV, or the supermarket while someone pays with a check, or seeing someone in line at the airport who realizes that his metal belt has metal in it. He is tired of Michael Cole to stop being a tool. He does not feel like waiting now. He tells Miz to come out now so they can . . .

Be interrupted by the most electrifyingly annoying noise in the world. The general manager’s computer makes noise too. Michael Cole asks Edge if he misses this before he quotes. Edge is very anxious to have his champion versus champion match but it is scheduled for later tonight. The GM has not forgotten the lack of respect that Edge showed . The person who throws Edge over the top rope will be number forty in the Royal Rumble.

Match Number One: Can You Eliminate Edge Challenge

Edge spears Swagger and tehn he punches Drew McIntyre. Kidd with a punch but then he gets power slammed when he tries for a springboard move. Kidd is thrown over the top rope to the floor. Drew with a kick to Edge and then he tries to throw him over the top rope. Swagger stops Drew and sends him into the turnbuckles. Edge sends Swagger over the top rope to the floor. Edge sends Drew over the top rope to the floor.

Winner: Edge

Edge thanks the anonymous general manager for getting his juices flowing. Edge says that he will get ready for his match with Miz, but he has something to do first. Edge says that it is something that he did the last time on the show. Edge wants to know if people want to see a smashed laptop.

Cole stands in front of the computer to save it and then the music for Nexus plays and all five men come to the ring.

Punk takes a while before he starts to talk and he says in this world only the strong survive. The strong survive just not from being strong or from sheer willpower. They survive because they evolve. The Rumble match will now have forty participants to become the largest in Rumble history. Punk says that as he sees his surrounds change, he adapts. If the Royal Rumble expands, Nexus evolves. We saw it expand with the inclusion of Mason Ryan, who was hand picked by him.

Mason says that he only has one thing to say. Faith.

Punk says that he couldn’t have said it more eloquently. Faith. These men you see before everyone in the ring are bonded by faith. Unlike John Cena and unlike that faithless and fake poor man’s Nexus, The Corre. Their faith on Sunday night will be rewarded. They will unite for the common good. CM Punk become the winner of the 2011 Royal Rumble match. When he wins the Royal Rumble, not only will he go on to main event Wrestlemania, the Nexus will become the most powerful group in WWE history.

The Corre comes out and they look like they are ready for a fight.

Barrett says that he wants to clarify things. The poor man’s Nexus is what is standing before him. Barrett says that they are nothing like the Nexus. It is not a brainwashing dictatorship.

Jackson says that at the Royal Rumble, they will unite and make sure that they eliminate Punk.

Mason Ryan gets between Zeke and Punk.

Time to kill the mood with the dingy dingy and its official reader. If Smackdown superstars are going to be given an open invitation to appear on Raw, he has the authority to make this match because Teddy Long is not available. Wade Barrett will face CM Punk. The loser of the match will be out of the Royal Rumble along with their group. The guest referee for this match will be someone they are both familiar with. That person is John Cena.

We go to commercial.

We are back with the Slam of the Week: Sheamus battling with Mark Henry last week and the weekly appearance by Alberto Del Rio.

Alberto Del Rio drives to the ring in a Bentley despite being in Detroit.

Match Number Two: John Morrison and Mark Henry versus Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio

Morrison and Del Rio start things off and they lock up with Del Rio backing Morrison into the corner. Del Rio with a kick to the ribs and then he sends Morrison into the turnbuckles. Del Rio with kicks to Morrison in the corner and then he sends Morrison into the turnbuckles again to tag in Sheamus. Sheamus with a kick and he tries to send Morrison into the turnbuckles but Morrison blocks it. Morrison with a kick and then he floats over and takes Sheamus down with a head scissors and connects with a drop kick and gets a near fall. Del Rio tags back in and he kicks Morrison. Morrison with a clothesline and a leg lariat. Morrison follows with a side Russian leg sweep and then Sheamus pulls Del Rio out of the ring when Morrison tries for the corkscrew split legged moonsault. Morrison lands on his feet as we go to commercial.

We are back and Del Rio has Morrison in a rear chin lock. We see footage from the commercial break when Sheamus pulled Morrison off the apron and then Del Rio sent Morrison into the ringside barrier. Back to live action and Del Rio gets a near fall. Morrison tries to make the tag but Del Rio keeps Morrison from making the tag and hits an elbow to the back. Sheamus tags in and he kicks Morrison in the back.

We see Michael Tarver watching in the locker room as the match continues.

Sheamus with a short arm clothesline and then he has Morrison in an arm bar and chin lock combination. Sheamus with a knee drop to the head and he gets a near fall. Morrison punches Sheamus but Sheamus with a tilt-a-whirl back breaker for a near fall. Sheamus waits for Morrison to get to his feet and Sheamus misses the pump kick but Morrison hits an enzuigiri and both men are down.

Del Rio and Henry tag in and Henry with a punch followed by head butts. Henry with a body block for a near fall but Sheamus breaks it up. Henry gives Sheamus a head butt followed by an Irish whip. Henry remembers that Del Rio is the legal man so he gives Del Rio a clothesline. Morrison with an enzuigiri to Sheamus and then Morrison with a corkscrew pescado onto Sheamus. Del Rio with the cross arm breaker on Henry and Henry taps out.

Winners: Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus

After the match, Rodriguez applauds his boss’ performance while Del Rio and Sheamus celebrate in the ring.

Natalya and Melina are walking in the back as we go to commercial.

Match Number Three: Melina versus Natalya for the Divas Title

They lock up and Melina backs Natalya into the ropes and then she hits a shoulder block that sends Natalya to the floor. Melina punches Natalya and then they return to the ring. Melina slams Natalya’s head into the mat and then she curb stomps Natalya and gets a near fall. Melina with a full nelson using her legs. Natalya is able to get to her feet and then she runs Melina into the turnbuckles. Natalya with forearms in the corner but Melina with a screaming boot to the head. Natalya with a hip toss and then she tosses Melina by the hair. Melina with a screaming forearm to the head. Melina continues to raise the decibels with boots to the midsection followed by a leg drop to the midsection but Natalya turns it into the Sharpshooter and she lays all the way back and Melina taps.

Winner: Natalya

After the match, two of the top Divas on a show not known as Raw comes out and Michelle McCool and Layla come out. Michelle tells . Layla tells Nattie that she will lose some weight in six days. Michelle tells her that she will still have to shop in the plus size section. Layla says that they never got their rematch so Michelle says that they will take the Diva Division from being Classless to being Flawless.

We go to commercial.

We are back and it is time to take a look back at the devastation that Nexus Red has caused. We go to last week when Mason Ryan made his debut on Raw.

The members of Nexus are in the locker room talking about the possibility that they might not be in the Royal Rumble. Punk says that they have all made great sacrifices to be part of Nexus. Punk says that he sacrificed by being kicked in the face by Mason Ryan to beat John Cena. Punk says that everyone will make sacrifices on Sunday to ensure that Punk wins the Royal Rumble match. Punk says that after he main events Wrestlemania their lives will be changed. Punk sees Husky with a confused look on his face.

Husky says that there are forty men in the Rumble. What if Punk is number one and nobody else in Nexus comes out until twenty and he is eliminated. Mason says that Punk will not be eliminated. Punk tells them to keep Corre from being involved.

Michael asks about Cena because of what they have done to him. Punk says that Barrett has been the one who is giving Cena problems. Punk tells them to have faith. Punk tells them to take a knee.

Josh Mathews is in the interview area with John Cena. Josh asks John about the main event and what he will do as referee. Cena says that he is known for doing the right thing as an official. Cena says that if Punk wins, he has faith that he will eliminate every member of Nexus. Cena says that if Barrett wins, he will take care of the members of Corre. John comments on the spelling of Corre. Cena says that he learned that the extra R stands for . . .

We hear ‘really’ from the side. Miz says that what Cena, Punk, Del Rio, and everyone else needs to know that winning the Royal Rumble is the worst thing that could happen to them if they challenge him for the title at Wrestlemania. Miz says that he gave Orton the worst beating of his life last week and he will do the same thing to the second rate champion.

Cena tells Miz to try to give him a beating tonight. Miz won’t do it. Cena says that Miz glommed onto his time. Cena says that if Miz loses on Sunday and loses his rematch, he won’t get to the main event of Wrestlemania. Cena leaves.

Miz asks Josh if he thinks he will lose at Wrestlemania. Miz says that actually he doesn’t care and he tells Josh to leave. Miz asks everyone if they think Orton will win. Miz let’s his minion introduce the tape of the attack from last week.

Cole gets on his soapbox and says that people need to show Miz some respect.

Match Number Four: Miz with Alex Riley at ringside and Michael Cole at the announce table versus Edge in a Champion versus Champion Non Title Match

Before the match starts, Dolph Ziggler comes out with his girlfriend and acting figurehead of Smackdown, Vickie Guerrero. They come to the announce table.

They circle each other and then Miz misses a kick when Edge moves out of the way. Miz misses another kick. Edge blocks a kick and he punches Miz a few times. Edge with a kick in the corner followed by more punches. Edge with a back elbow followed by another kick. Edge with a head butt. Edge with a wrist lock but Miz with elbows. Edge with a take down and then he clotheslines Miz over the top rope to the floor.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Edge with a clothesline and he gets a near fall. Miz with a knee to the midsection and then he stomps on the midsection to work on the injured ribs. Miz with a boot to the head and he gets a near fall. Miz with a rear chin lock and then he continues to kick Edge in the ribs. Miz with another kick but Edge with a swinging neck breaker. Edge sets up for the spear but he hasn’t pulled the hair so it was too soon. Miz goes to the floor but Edge follows after him.

Miz with a punch and kick to the ribs. Miz gets Irish whipped into the ringside barrier as Alex Riley does his best job to protect something besides Miz. Edge sends Miz back into the ring and he goes up top but Miz stops him. Miz tries for a superplex but Edge holds on to the turnbuckle. Edge punches Miz and head butts him to the mat. Edge with a cross body for a near fall.

Edge with an Irish whip or two. Edge with kicks in the corner and then he misses a charge into the corner when Riley pulls Miz out of the corner. Miz with a kick and then he drops Edge on the top rope. We go to commercial.

We are back and Miz gets a near fall on Edge and then he punches Edge before getting another near fall. Miz with more punches and kicks but the referee pulls him away. Miz takes the tape off Edge’s ribs and he puts Edge in a body scissors. Edge gets to his feet and he hits a belly-to-back suplex. Edge follows that with a flapjack while Cole tries to say how great he thinks Miz is. Edge with a running forearm and clothesline followed by a half nelson face driver for a near fall.

Miz runs Edge into the corner and he connects with shoulders in the corner. Miz sets for the Awesome clothesline but Miz misses and Edge gets a near fall with a rollup. Riley distracts Edge after Miz kicks out and Edge goes after Riley. Miz with an inside cradle for a near fall. Miz with a kick to the midsection and Edge with a baseball slide to Riley. Edge with an Impaler DDT. Edge sets for the spear but Dolph Ziggler leaves the announce table. Edge pulls at the hair and Ziggler trips Edge and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Edge by disqualification

After the match, Ziggler gives Edge a Zig Zag. Randy Orton comes tot eh ring and he goes after Miz and Riley. Orton gives Ziggler a power slam. Orton goes after Miz and he connects with punches and a European uppercut. Orton with an RKO to Riley and then to Ziggler. Miz hits Orton in the back of the leg with the Mongo McMichael Halliburton and he heads up the ramp to the stage.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Wade Barrett is in the interview area with Josh Mathews. Josh asks Wade about the difference between Nexus and Corre. Wade says that Nexus was supposed to be for the group but as he came closer to the WWE Title, he became obsessed with beating and humiliating John Cena. That is how he lost Nexus. Now he is a member of The Corre. Wade says that they have no issues with Cena being referee or with leadership issues because they are all equals. Josh asks Wade about what happened to Teddy Long last week on Smackdown. Wade says that he hopes that Teddy has a quick and speedy recovery. Wade says that their goal is to make sure that Cena and his misfits don’t make it to the Royal Rumble. He knows that John Cena will never like him, but he hopes that John Cena will respect him like he respects Cena.

Match Number Five: Daniel Bryan, Nikki Bella, and Brie Bella versus Ted DiBiase, Maryse, and Alicia Fox

Bryan and DiBiase start things off and DiBiase with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Bryan with a hip toss but Ted kicks Bryan away. Maryse tags herself in and she yells at Ted. Nikki with an Irish whip and flying mare followed by a clothesline. Brie gets a bit too cozy with Bryan on the apron and Maryse gets the three count with a rollup.

Winners: Maryse, Ted DiBiase, and Alicia Fox

After the match, Brie and Nikki argue and Cole celebrates with Maryse while the Battle of the Bellas continue. Bryan tries to be the peacekeeper. We go to commercial.

We are back and Cole and Lawler talk about the Royal Rumble match, so it is time to look at the card for the pay per view.

The Bellas continue to argue and they walk past Michael Tarver and conveniently stop right by him. Nikki says that Daniel will want to console her tonight at dinner. Brie points out that Nikki lost the match. They walk into Bryan’s locker room and Bryan is with Gail Kim. The Bellas wonder what is happening and Daniel says that Gail is his girlfriend and they have been seeing each other for six months. They ask Daniel if he is . . . and he says that he is vegan. Gail says that Daniel felt sorry for them because there are no guest hosts around. They call Gail an afterthought and then the afterthought slaps Nikki and Brie. We have a full blown brawl with referees pulling them apart.

Nexus comes to the ring and we go to commercial.

We are back and Did you Know that Smackdown had its biggest audience last week.

Vickie Guerrero has announced that Edge and Randy Orton will face Miz and Dolph Ziggler on Smackdown (like you didn’t expect that to happen).

Match Number Six: Michael McGillicutty and Husky Harris with Mason Ryan and David Otunga versus Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella with Tamina

Kozlov and McGillicutty start things off and Michael with punches but Kozlov with a waist lock take down and Marella tags in. Santino punches Michael and works on the arm and takes him to the mat. Marella with a side head lock but Michael with a punch and knee to get out of the hold. Santino tries to float over but Michael anticipated it and he hits a clothesline to the back of the head. Harris is tagged in and he kicks Marella. Harris with a slam and then he gets a near fall.

Harris with a reverse chin lock but Santino with an arm drag. Harris with a kick to the head followed by a short arm clothesline for a near fall. Harris with a punch to the head and he puts Santino in an arm bar with a chin lock.

Santino with a jawbreaker but Harris recovers and knocks Kozlov off the apron. Harris misses a splash and clothesline and then he kicks Harris in the leg. Santino tries for the cobra on Michael and he misses. Harris with a clothesline and then Harris with a swinging reverse DDT for the three count.

Winners: Michael McGillicutty and Husky Harris

After the match, David Otunga has something to say. He wants everyone to give props to the new Nexus. Otunga says that he wants everyone to give a warm welcome to the man who sacrificed so much for and the man they will sacrifice for at the Royal Rumble. He brings out CM Punk.

John Cena gets his referee shirt from someone in the back and he gives him his dog tags in a Franco Harris/kid in the concourse with a Coke moment. We go to commercial.

Match Number Seven: CM Punk with Husky Harris, Michael McGillicutty, David Otunga, and Mason ‘Notista’ Ryan versus Wade Barrett with Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, and Ezekiel Jackson with Guest Referee John Cena in a Loser (and his group) Leave the Royal Rumble Match Match

Before the match starts, John Cena decides to send the members of Nexus to the back. Cena then decides to send Gabriel, Jackson, and Slater to the back.

Cena gets between Barrett and Punk and Cena pushes Punk down. Cena reminds Punk that he is the referee. Cena then slaps Barrett. Punk hits Barrett from behind and then he kicks Barrett in the corner. Punk throws Barrett over the top rope to the floor and he tells Cena that is what is going to happen to him on Sunday. Cena sends Punk over the top rope and he wants to hit Cena but he can’t. Barrett hits Punk from behind and connects with an elbow and hits a belly-to-back suplex. Barrett has a cover but Cena was at ringside signing autographs.

They each hit clotheslines and Cena calls for the bell. Cena calls it a double disqualification due to excessive profanity.

Cena announces that both teams are out of the Rumble match.

To ruin the fun of Cena, the most annoying noise in sports entertainment interrupts. Cole says that what we have seen is a blatant abuse of power. The referee’s decision cannot be changed, but he can change the consequences. CM Punk, Wade Barrett and their teams will be in the Royal Rumble match. If John Cena does not go into the ring to apologize to both men, he will be out of the Royal Rumble match.

Cena removes the referee shirt so he is a superstar again. Cena goes into the ring and he apologizes to Punk and Barrett. Then he punches both men. Cena sees Corre come to the ring and Cena leaves. Nexus Red comes to the ring as well and they check on CM Punk.

With both groups in the ring, McGillicutty and Harris go after Cena.

Big Show’s music plays and everyone else scheduled for the Royal Rumble comes to the ring. We have a Pier Six Slobberknocker as we go to credits.

Triple H made an appearance today on ESPN's NFL Sunday Countdown talking about Aaron Rodgers' touchdown celebration. It is known that in Aaron's touchdown celebrations he makes the end zone into his personal wrestling ring by signaling he is going to win the championship with the belt hand gestures that we see in wrestling. They showed a teaser before the main segment of an example of the touchdown celebration with Triple H watching it on a TV. HHH said, "Oo...look at that celebration!" While doing the gestures himself, well made up in a suit. In a 2nd teaser, HHH said "No one does a celebration like me. But, Aaron, you're getting close." They labeled the segment as "The Main Event".

Packer's quarterback Aaron Rodgers' is not boastful. But expect to see the Championship Belt when they score. His teammate's comment on how they love seeing it. Also, how the Green Bay community is embracing it. HHH comments, "This is one of those things that is an in-your-face gesture. For Aaron to score a touchdown, and let people know it is the Packers year. Right to the cameras. Way to go. If he was to critique it, it's a little bit low. And he needs to do it a couple times to get it across

Spoiler Results For Ring Of Honor's Last TV Taping

The lighting issues that affected the earlier portion of last night's taping seem to have been squared away.

-Slyk Wagner Brown defeated Christian York in a dark match.

-Jim Cornette came out to open the show, and then talked about what happened with Davey Richards' concussion at Final Battle costing him his destiny. Cornette introduced Davey as he came out for an in-ring interview. Cornette says Davey was within inches of winning the match when the concussion happened, and Davey says he's watched the tape several times since he doesn't remember a lot about the match, and all he can think about is how he failed himself and the fans and he is sorry. The bottom line is that he lost and he failed, and the crowd started chanting "rematch" at Davey. Cornette says the fans want a rematch and he deserves one, and Davey says he wants it, but not now and on his own time and he doesn't want to be handed anything here because it's not about being handed things, it's about earning things. Davey says he will train harder than he ever trained before to become the best wrestler he can so when he finally gets his title shot, he will have victory. Davey says he won't take the fans support for granted and won't waste their time, and if he doesn't win the title the next time, he's never going to challenge for it again, and all he can ask if for the fans' respect and support, and his journey to another title shot begins now. He's facing Colt Cabana in Chicago and he has the hometown advantage, but Davey says it's going to be Colt or himself, and at the end of the night he'll be standing over Colt because he's going to be the ROH World Champion. He is Davey Richards, he is the American Wolf, and the hunt never dies.

-The Bravado Brothers defeated Bobby Dempsey & Grizzly Redwood when Lance hit a crossbody on Dempsey and knocked him backwards over a crouching Harlem for the pin. I love the Bravados' act as clueless heels who think they're babyfaces.

-Homicide comes out to the ring and says he has been in ROH from the beginning and only won the World Title once, and then some fat slob from Japan came and took it from him. Now some guy from Tampa has the title, and he wanted Roderick Strong at Final Battle, but he refused to face him and has been hiding in matches with Davey Richards and Jay Briscoe. Now he's got him and he's going to take Roderick's title at the Anniversary Show. Roderick comes out with Truth Martini and says he doesn't owe Homicide anything, and while he was in TNA with Konnan, Roderick was here dominating and they don't owe Homicide s***. Roderick is the World Champion and he runs the company and Homicide is a has been. Homicide ruined the greatest night of Roderick's life by interrupting Roderick's celebration after winning the World Title, and now Roderick has a chance to make things right, and now all Homicide has to do is apologize for what he did at Glory By Honor IX and Roderick will face him in Chicago. Homicide says he's sorry, because he should have done this a long time ago, and he nails Roderick, then nails Truth Martini. Roderick attacks Homicide and beats him down until the Referee Patrol comes out to pull them apart. Roderick takes his shoe off and nails the referees with it, then uses it to beat Homicide down before throwing it into the crowd. Finally the referees separate them...momentarily, until Homicide rushes Roderick and beats him down. Roderick bails out to the floor, but comes back in as soon as Homicide turns his back and attacks him again. The fight continues until Homicide rips off Roderick's pants, exposing his light blue underwear and Roderick runs to the back.

-Steve Corino again took his seat at ringside for the semifinals of the Top Prospect Tournament.

-In the first Top Prospect Tournament semifinal, Kyle O'Reilly won a very hard fought match over Michael Elgin. This match was excellent and made both guys look great, Elgin dominated early with power moves and nothing O'Reilly did affected him until they fought on the apron and O'Reilly popped up to the top rope and hit a flying headscissors to the floor and followed that with a running dropkick off the apron that rammed Elgin into the corner. Elgin came back and ripped O'Reilly's head off with a lariat as well as a wrist clutch version of the Regalplex, but O'Reilly got a Diablo armbar and then cradled Elgin for the win. Crowd popped big for this match and especially for the O'Reilly win. Steve Corino gave his postmatch comments, saying that no matter who wins the other semifinal, he considers O'Reilly the top prospect and wishes him luck in the finals.

-Mike Bennett defeated Andy "Right Leg" Ridge in the second semifinal match of the Top Prospect Tournament, and Ridge got in a lot more offense than I would have expected and was KILLING Bennett with kicks. Bennett finally came back and hit the Side Effect for the win and will now face Kyle O'Reilly in the finals. Corino gave his postmatch comments and said that as impressive as the match was, his money's still on Kyle O'Reilly. Mike Bennett comes over and says that Corino said that he was overconfident, but that overconfidence has taken him to the finals, and tells Corino to just take his seat at ringside and keep his mouth shut.

-Davey Richards defeated Tony Kozina in a match held under Pancratian Rules, which was basically some kind of martial arts match. It was interesting and different, but the crowd kind of died off and didn't seem into it. I would assume the story is that Davey's starting his training he mentioned earlier by having a match like this with his trainer. Davey basically beat Kozina up until Kozina got a backdrop suplex and locked Davey in a rear naked choke. Davey got out and put Kozina down with several kicks, then hit a running knee to the chest and rained punches down onto Kozina until the referee stopped the match. Davey and Kozina bowed to each other in a show of respect afterward.

-In a TV main event, won a Four Corner Survival match that also included . Roderick and Homicide started, but Roderick tagged out to Briscoe before any contact was made. Strong basically spent the whole match coming in when he could get an advantage and running the rest of the time, with a focus on Roderick going out of his way to push Homicide's buttons, tagging out to him at one point and then attacking him when Homicide got dumped to the floor. Roderick finally tagged in and went after Homicide when he was already down, but tagged out as soon as Homicide started firing back. Roderick came in and worked Briscoe over for several minuteswhile taunting Homicide, spitting at him and at one point ramming Briscoe into Homicide and knocking him to the floor. Finally Homicide tagged in and got his hands on Roderick, but Roderick again tagged out to Generico, who sent Homicide out to the floor and then tossed Jay as well and hit a dive that wiped all three men out. The match finally boiled down to Homicide and Roderick, and Homicide went for the Cop Killa but Roderick escaped and hit the Tylerkick for 2, then hit a gutbuster and went for the Sick Kick but Briscoe and Generico wound up back in the ring and broke it up. Homicide ripped Generico's head off with a lariat, but Generico recovered and he and Briscoe exchanged Yakuza Kicks until Briscoe hit a hard Falcon Arrow Suplex for 2. Jay hit the Jay Driller on Homicide but immediately ate a Yakuza Kick and brainbuster from Generico, and Generico went for the cover but Roderick had tagged himself in right before the brainbuster and covered Briscoe for the win. Excellent match with a great story of Roderick frustrating Homicide by running from him and then stealing the win

Spoiler Update On TNA's "They" Storyline

It was announced by Amazing Reds's "little" brother Crimson that "They" would be coming to TNA Wrestling.

"They" will mark the return of the Main Event Mafia and will consist of Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner, and possibly Sting, Kevin Nash and Booker T.

Steiner returned to TNA at last Wednesday's iMPACT! taping and participated in a cliff hanger ending. He donned a suit reminiscent of his time in the Main Event Mafia. Angle is penciled in for the group, and many within the organization expect Sting to be too.

Many in TNA presume that Nash is on board for the group. However, he adamantly said last week on Twitter that he is not because he is retired. Internally, many believe Nash is kayfabing his absence from TNA, but those close to him indicate he's legitimately retired.

Booker T's status remains unknown at this point, other than he wasn't believed to have signed as of last week. Some were pleased with his departure from the organization in October 2009 as there were complaints about his performance, attitude, refusal to put over Matt Morgan in a match, and his own admission that he was using the company as a way to audition for acting roles.

Bobby Lashley has been mentioned by those in TNA as a possible member of the group. However, those affiliated with the mixed martial artist don't believe he's returning to the wrestling organization. Lashley is currently a free agent as his contract with Strikeforce expired following his loss to Chad Griggs in August. The only thing of note he has done since then is work a wrestling match for the Japanese promotion Inoki Genome Federation (IGF) in September. He is not tentatively not scheduled for any upcoming shows.

TV Rating For WWE Raw 1/17/11

The Submission Files V2 (#3) - Apologize to Matt Hardy? I don't think so.

Ok, all the respect in the world goes to my friend David Stephens, from alongside fellow colleague, Anthony Valvo. Never met either of these men, but I consider them colleagues, friends, and respected writers and talents.

With that being said, I recently read Mr. Stephens last column on,titled an apology to Matt Hardy, and I had to take the time to respond. And since that response, the juices started flowing, and now, it's time to take the response to the next level.

I've said from day one. Never experienced the pain of being in the ring. Never experienced the rigors of being on the road. Never experienced the stress of performing in front of 100 people, or 100,000 people. Ok, maybe I can stretch that last one, but the point is, I am not an expert, I am not a source, I am a fan of this business, and the men and women who take their lives in their hands when they step through the ropes, day in day out, in an attempt to entertain us.

Now, the first thing that needs to be said is, we as fans, which is what we are. With maybe, at the moment, the one exception of Shelly Martinez from Fromheadlockstoheadlines.com, we are fans of the business, and that is that. I know Ms. Martinez writes an occasional column on Headlocks, and she is definitely worthy of being classified as a source of information about the world of pro wrestling, since she's been through it, from A to Zinc. We, the David Stephens, the Tony Valvos, the Mike Sicilianos, et al, we have not.

However, WE, as fans, are entitled to comment, and make our judgments and opinions known about the public personas portrayed by the talents that step through the ropes on a day in day out basis.

Last week, I listened to Shelly Martinez's show on blogtalkradio.com, and her guest, Homicide. I tried DESPERATELY to call in, but the damn skype went ballistic on me, just as Shelly called me on to the show. Grumble, grumble. But, let's be frank about this. Shelly had information to share, which she did candidly, openly, professionally, and personably, with every menber of that chat room. Homicide, when he came on board, was the utmost professional, saying what he thought, and bringing his views of the business to the table, not sugar coating one damn thing.

Even though my Skype blew up on me, the experience in itself was memorable, and I thank both the Notorious one, and the goregous Ms. Martinez for putting on such an enjoyable show.

Then, we take it to the opposite ends of the spectrum. We get MATTHEW, or Matt, or MattHEW, or MATThew, or whatever the hell he calls himself, coming on board on youtube, saying how he's going to change the face of pro wrestling, putting down men who have had little to no contact with him over the past few months, yet have kept their public personas clean and eventless in that period of time, i.e. CM Punk & Sean Morley, and still, Matt kept shooting his mouth off.

We would've thought that this would've been figured out as a wrong strategy back in 2005 when Matt was on the outside looking in during the whole Edge/Lita thing, but obviously, lessons take a while to learn, and sometimes they just can't be taught.

If there's a reason to talk publicly, then do it. Shawn Michaels has used social media perfectly, to announce his projects, what he is doing, and what is coming up for him next. Other members of WWE, and TNA, have used twitter and facebook to connect to their fans in a way that few other celebrities have, or could, or want to, and that is one of, if not the MAIN REASON, why I follow this sport, this entertainment, to the level that I do. Because the talents take the time to interact with the fans.

But, of course, when you have an omelete, you're going to have some bad eggs. Right now, the bad eggs are Matt & Jeff Hardy.

Which brings me back to David Stephens's article. David Stephens is NOT supposed to be apologizing to anyone for what has transpired amongst the men in Cameron, North Carolina. David Stephens has, for the past 53 times, put out professional pieces of writing, detailing his opinions, some negative, some positive, and some in the middle, in the attempt of entertaining those of us on the world wide web. I have done the same for the better part of seven years, all over the web, and the only thing that the internet wrestling community should be apologizing to its readers about is this.

We don't know everything.

We don't know why Punk grabbed that fan recently at a house show. We don't know why the Hardys made the video bashing Sean Morley and CM Punk back in the day. We don't know why Matt Hardy came in to TNA looking like a cross between The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Adam Duritz, and George Clinton. We don't know why Jeff Hardy continues to look absolutely high as a kite while his girlfriend/wife sits home with a newborn child. We don't know why the talents that are plummeting down the cliff that is the world of sports entertainment are doing what they are doing, and to speculate reasons or advise actions, or to chastise in any way, shape, or form, is our right, but we must make sure, as writers, ourselves, that we address these speculative thoughts under the caveat that we ARE FANS, and we do not know what these men go through day in day out.

Why these men take their public persona and put it in to the trash compactor? Well, that's a topic we can rip till the cows come home, because frankly, it's stupid, it's beyond reproach, and frankly, it damages a wrestler's career.

The people here that need to apologize to anyone are the people close to the men and women who are struggling to cope with the rigors of pro wrestling. I know this is not going to see appropriate, but I'll use this as a closer.

I have my own mental demons that I combat day in day out. There are days where I'm over the top obnoxious, there are days when I'm over the top happy, and there are days that are complete opposites. If I didn't have the support I have behind me, well, who knows what would happen.

For the men around these two subjects I have spoken of primarily in this piece, they need to look in the mirror themselves, and ask whether or not they are doing what is best for the Hardy Boys. Because, as it stands right now, its only a matter of time before both of them become a statistic. A statistic we do not need.

David Stephens. You continue doing what you do. You are a talented writer with a lot of creativity. The LAST PERSON ON THE PLANET you need to apologize to, is someone who will never appreciate the sentiment.

DVD Review:Greatest Stars of the ‘90s

Continuing from “WWE Greatest Wrestling Stars of the ‘80s”, this three disc set focuses on those of the 90s one of the most remembered times in wrestling. Unlike the previous set, they don’t focus mostly on those who were in the WWE in the time as there are bits of WCW and even ECW.

Disc 1

Instead of spreading out the biographies of the people throughout the set, they are on this disc and runs for three hours. Drawback to it is that it doesn’t give an extensive amount of time to discuss of the individual. Surprising additions were the ones of Yokozuna, Owen Hart, Lex Luger, Kevin Nash and Sting.

We are given thoughts from some of the current wrestlers of WWE and the comments made by them are surprising and insightful. Regrettably there are some people that are absent that deserved of a spot. Vader is such an example.

Wrapping up the disc is a series of vignettes/moments that might’ve been forgotten over time. Most of them are worth a view.

Discs 2

The two discs focus on matches that happened during that time period and most of them definitely deserve in being included. Here are the matches:

11/30/91 – Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair

Showed what WWE was missing for not doing this match on PPV when they had the opportunity to. Looked as though it was held at a house show but that doesn’t take away from how good the two of them worked together.

11/25/92, Survivor Series – WWE Championship: Bret Hart (c) vs. Shawn Michaels

A great match that is mostly overlooked due to the two more remembered they would have later on. This was both their first pay-per-view main event and for nearly thirty minutes these two showed that they’re deserving of the opportunity.

6/13/93, King of the Ring – WWE Championship: Hulk Hogan (c) vs. Yokozuna

A lot of history, both on television and behind the scenes, involving this match and despite all that, it showed how dominating of a champion Yokozuna would be. One gripe I have with it is how it ended. No real explanation came after it but fans know it was done due to some of the backstage politics that Hogan is known to do.

3/20/94, WrestleMania X – Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart

This was not just one of the best matches in the history of Mania but in wrestling in general. In my opinion this was the best feud involving to real life family members. You can’t go wrong when it comes to matches that involved either one of them.

4/13/94, Superstars – Intercontinental Title Match: Razor Ramon (c) vs. Diesel

Before they would become “The Outsiders”, Hall and Nash would have their share of matches in WWE. Diesel would get the first title within a year and was the start of the stardom he would receive in the company.

5/22/94, Slamboree – International World Heavyweight Title Match: Sting vs. Vader

These two always had good matches and this was no exception. Showed how good Vader was and how misused he was during his time in the WWE.

1/22/95, Royal Rumble – WWE Championship: Diesel (c) vs. Bret Hart

Two of WWE’s best at the time and they went at it. Only downside I could think of was how it ended.

4/3/95, Monday Night Raw – WWE Women’s Championship Match: Bull Nakano (c) vs. Alundra Blayze

In present day it’s far and in-between when WWE has a great women’s match. While in the 90s there weren’t many matches involving women but when there was they weren’t a disappointment. Would be great to see more matches like this when it involves the “divas”.

Disc 3

Triple Header Match:

In Your House, 9/24/95 - Diesel (WWE Champion) & Shawn Michaels (Intercontinental Champion) vs. Yokozuna & British Bulldog (Tag Team Champions)

An interesting concept for a match and hasn’t been many like it since. At the time it looked as though either side could’ve won and win that respective title. The ending did it but needed to be done, given the circumstances and set up for the night that followed.

In Your House, 2/18/96 – Shawn Michaels vs. Owen Hart

Most fans will remember the matches that Michaels had with Bret but would do some good work with the younger Hart brother. This followed angle when Shawn collapsed in the ring during a match with Owen taking credit. Match itself was great but adding a WWE championship title shot added a good touch.

8/18/96, SummerSlam – WWE Championship: Shawn Michaels (c) vs. Vader

Third match in a row involving Shawn Michaels. Seeing as how he had such an impact during the time it shouldn’t be that surprising to see him repeatedly. This was one of Vader’s more remembered matches in the WWE. He would have some more following but didn’t top this one.

8/3/97, SummerSlam – Steel Cage Match: Mankind vs. Hunter Hearst-Helmsley

Good match that has somewhat been forgotten due to the series of matches these two had in early 2000.

8/4/97, Monday Night – WCW World Heavyweight Title Match: Hollywood Hogan (c) vs. Lex Luger

During the whole NWO angle, Luger was one of their main obstacles. An extra addition was that it occurred on Nitro’s 100th episode. Match wasn’t considered a classic and the Total Package’s reign as chapter ended the following Saturday. Felt as though Lex’s time as the main guy of WCW was done to hold off until when Sting returned to the ring.

10/25/98, Halloween Havoc – WCW United States Title Match: Bret Hart (c) vs. Sting

There have been arguments on whether Bret was misused during his time in WCW and I would agree. A match against Sting is one fans have waited to see but didn’t live up to the hype. Something felt off about it and didn’t really flow. It isn’t unbearable but it does drag at points.

8/30/98, SummerSlam – WWE Championship: Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs. Undertaker

Perhaps the best match these two ever hand together. The table spot done by the Undertaker was remarkable. This showed why these two deserve in being called two of WWE’s renowned stars.

7/25/99, Fully Loaded – Strap Match: The Rock vs. Triple H

Another match in the series of ones they have had throughout most of their careers. Fortunately this wasn’t a strap match where all four corners had to be touched and having the strap being merely an extension to the match. This helped to elevate the Game to main event status.

Final Verdict

This set is truly one worth watching. The first discs didn’t have anything that dragged and the match selection improved from the one does for the 80s’ set. Would’ve been nice to see one or two matches from ECW but it’s a small complaint.

Smackdown opens with the Nexus guys and Ezekiel Jackson coming out. Wade Barrett refers to the group as "The Core." Teddy Long comes out and says that unlike Raw, he isn't a GM hiding behind a computer and warns Barrett that he's not going to tolerate what went down last week. He says if Barrett doesn't like that, he can leave Smackdown.
*Alberto Del Rio defeated R-Truth with the rolling armbreaker. During the match, we saw footage of Teddy Long being taken into an ambulance with the implication being that The Core/Nexus guys had beaten him up.

*Beth Phoenix defeated Layla.

*The Core tell Vickie Guerrero that they had nothing to do with what happened to Teddy Long. Vickie tells Wade Barrett that she's looking for someone to take out Edge to insure that Dolph Ziggler can be the new World champion.

*Rey Mysterio defeated Cody Rhodes with the 619 in a good match.

*Backstage, WWE champion The Miz and Alex Riley show up and stop Josh Mathews from getting an update on Teddy Long. Miz says that after what they did to Randy Orton, the whole world deserves to see him and he'll share what he did with the world.

*In what I am guessing was a segment just for us here in Tulsa, Jim Ross got a huge reaction coming out and then interviewed Jack Swagger. Swagger ripped on his home State, claiming he moved to Texas. As you can imagine, we didn't like that.

*Jack Swagger defeated Kofi Kingston in an arm wrestling match. Snore.

*Drew McIntyre defeated Trent Baretta. He offers Baretta his hand as a sign of respect after, then kills him. Kelly Kelly comes out and is pissed. She helps Baretta to the back as Drew looks mad at himself.

*WWE champion The Miz comes out and rips on Randy Orton and the fans. World champion Edge hits the ring and warns Miz that "he's done here." It ends up with Edge spearing Miz. So, it was basically a segment to preview Raw Monday but good mic work.

*The Core comes out and Vickie Guerrero announces Edge vs. Justin Gabriel. The others are at ringside and Dolph is doing announcing. Edge and Gabriel have a decent match. In the end, Edge gets into it with The Core and that allows Ezekiel to lay Edge out and Gabriel gets the pin. The Core beat down Edge until Rey and Kofi make the save

I just read. 40 men in the Rumble match this year. Interesting twist. Let's try and dissect this a little.

After going through both roster pages on WWE.com, I came up with this potential field of entrants.

I have 39 men that I believe will make it. There are some I have left out. Obviously, the WWE Champion and World Champion for one. I put in the other champions, although it is certainly possible to take out the singles champions Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston. I doubt it, but it's possible. Since the Rumble always has its share of surprise entrants, I would think they could be taken out of the match, but I'm going to keep them in, and say the Rumble has one surprise mystery entrant this year.

Others I kept out, like Curt Hawkins, Joey Mercury, Finlay, and others like that are simple eliminations because they've been off television for such a long period of time. It's also entirely possible that the losers of the world title matches will not be in the match, which guarantees this mock field the necessary elasticity to insert the surprises needed to make this 40 man rumble the most unique match in the Rumble's history.

I mean, who is potentially a mystery entrant? Jerry Lawler comes to mind for one, since he's been so active lately. If Khali makes it back to the US in time, he could be an entrant. Is Christian healed enough to return at the Rumble? Any other hall of famers in the neighborhood to make an appearance?

This 40 man field makes the Rumble the absolute biggest wild card match of the year. What is still the problem, however, is it doesn't seal the deal as to whom is in the main event at Wrestlemania. Back in the day, it guaranteed the victor a shot in the main event. Now, with Elimination Chamber looming next month, we normally don't get at least one man in the main event confirmed until after that pay per view, which is always maddening to me.

But, maybe, just maybe, things are changing. Obviously, they are changing. We're so used to saying 30 man royal rumble, and now, that's obsolete.

Just like this column is. Short one today. Buh - bye.

One last thought, who here isn't thinking of this potential eight man match.

Know Your Enemy- The Smackdown Report

Hello and welcome to a brand new column. I would like to thank Darragh O'Connor and Evan O'Brien for allowing me to do this column. I previously wrote the Friday Night Hangover (Smackdown Recap). This column won't differ greatly as it is still Smackdown themed however I will look more at individual wrestlers and storylines etc and give an opinion on how I think they could be maximised/executed.

So for my first column I thought I would look at Smackdown the brand itself and how it can thrive in 2011 after a solid enough 2010. 2010 started off well for Smackdown. Undertaker was World Champion, there was a strong roster overall with the likes of Chris Jericho, Edge, Rey Mysterio, Kane, CM Punk and a strong mid card of young talent with the likes of Jack Swagger, John Morrison, Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler. Everything was looking good. But as what usually happens within the WWE when the draft came along Smackdown was pillaged. Smackdown lost Jericho, Edge, Punk, JoMo, R-Truth on the main draft show. The only draftees of note that joined Smackdown was Christian, Kofi and a relative unknown (as a singles competitor) Cody Rhodes. But we shouldn't be suprised as this is the MO of WWE when it comes to draft, in previous years it was the ECW brand now it appears to be Smackdown. I highlight the draft as a turning point because I believe for Smackdown to thrive this year it has to keep hold of alot of its talent in the 2011 draft taking place on April the 18th. After the 2010 draft it took a while for Smackdown to regain its momentum due to the sheer number of talented guys they lost.

With this years draft 3 months away I would like to look at 3 superstars who I believe Smackdown should hold onto as they are the key to bring the brand on this year. Firstly, Alberto Del Rio. Vignettes started in June of 2010 to hype the arrival of ADR. It was an old school approach to introduce the character and it all paid dividends when Alberto debuted in August defeating Rey Mysterio in the main event via submission. From his first match it was clear Alberto was going to be a star. A long fued with Rey ensued that came to a head only 2 weeks ago. Inbetween his fued with Rey he had a small fued with Christian (which ended with Christian's pec injury and should be revisited), competed in the KOTR and competed for the World Title at TLC in December. For a guy who has only been on the roster 6 months he has achieved alot. ADR has alot of upside for Smackdown, he's in the minority of guys that can move up and down the card easily with no detriment to his character (see Matt Hardy & MVP). He can work with new guys coming in (NXT shows that), he can have grudge fueds with the likes of Christian, Show etc, he hasn't held a title yet so he fits into both the IC or World Title division. Also it is rumoured he is been looked as the guy to take over from Rey Mysterio as the Hispanic draw. So a face turn could work also for ADR as he can work the highflying style also which is something people who aren't familiar with his work in AAA and CMLL would have seen before. When it comes to ADR he is a good fit for Smackdown wherever he ends up on the card. He is definitely paramount to the growth of Smackdown in 2011 and a big title run is surely imminent for him.

Secondly is a new addition to the Smackdown roster and that is Wade Barret. Wade joined the brand on the 7th of January. But the impact he has brought with him cements him as a key part for Smackdown going forward. He attacked the Big Show on his first night and on this weeks Smackdown he introduced former Nexus members Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel along with Ezekiel Jackson as his new hired guns. Thus creating a new, as yet unnamed faction. Wade, Heath, Justin and Zeke if nothing bolster a thin roster. Wade is clearly the focal point of the group as he was in Nexus for a long time. Nexus ran roughshod over on Raw under Wade's following and his new faction will surely do the same on Smackdown. This makes it very interesting for Smackdown having a renegade force who will go after face and heels. Also in Wade we have a guy who can slot easily into the main event picture and is rumored to be a hand picked choice by the Undertaker to face him at Mania, which for someone who made his debut 11 months ago is a huge indication of how he is viewed by WWE. If this happens it will be big for Smackdown as it could be a passing of the torch moment and if Taker is to lose the streak it should be to someone like Wade Barret. It would cement Wade as THE guy on Smackdown.

The last Superstar I will look at is Dolph Ziggler. Anyone who has read my Hangover column or listened to Headlocks Radio will know I am a huge Ziggler fan. If 2010 was the year of the Miz then 2011 will be the year of Dolph Ziggler. Unlike Wade and ADR, Dolph has been with WWE since 2004. He has been lumbered with some truly atrocious gimmicks. From Kerwin Whites (Chavo Guerrero) caddy to the career Hari Kari that was the Spirit Squad he has overcome alot of obstacles to get to where he is now. Even when he debuted as Dolph Ziggler nobody gave him a chance as he was saddled with a ridiculous name. However when Dolph was drafted to Smackdown in 2009 he went about his business. Putting on good matches with the likes of MVP, Rey Mysterio and John Morrison. Things began to kick off for Dolph when he was paired with Vickie Guerrero. He picked up the IC title in June and held it until last week. On numerous occassions retaining it thanks to Vickie. Dolph arguably had some of the best matches in 2010 on a consistent basis with the likes of Rey Mysterio, Kaval, John Cena (proving he can compete in the main event scene) and his series with Daniel Bryan was what wrestling should be all about. Now in 2011 Dolph is the number 1 contender for Edge's World Title and they'll face off at the Royal Rumble. The question is will Dolph win? I honestly don't think he will. But this is a gauge, to see if he can put on a show with Edge and I certainly believe he can. I'll make a prediction, by the end of 2011 he will have held World Championship gold. I think he is a shoe in for it. He is paramount to Smackdown simply because Smackdown is a wrestling show. Dolph is a wrestler. Dolph has put on the best tv matches consistenly in 2010 and will continue to do so in 2011 as part of Smackdown.

Shad discussed candidly what he has been doing since his WWE Release including 2 feature films that will be released this year as well as a screenplay that turned into a graphic novel that both He and Marc Caponi(Formerly Muhammed Hassan in the WWE) are releasing this year as well and the hopes to option out the screenplay to a movie deal, The debut of Cryme Time in the WWE and how much creative leighway they were given, The current Tag Team Scene in the WWE, His thoughts on the success of The Miz and his program with both Miz and Morrison, Shad discussed how Cryme Tyme came to be and if he felt uncomfortable about the typical stereotype he was portraying on WWE Programming, The tension and backstage problems with Cade and Murdoch and the infamous incident that saw the intial release of Cryme Tyme from the WWE, A funny story about the events leading up to the return of Cryme Tyme at Wrestlemania and the reaction of Umaga who invited them to the show as his guests after they had already signed deals with the company secretly, Discussion on why they never got a run with the Tag Team Titles, A few email questions from the SNS Family including The TreyDawg asking why can't Eve Dance? and the meaning of getting"Krunk",The Shortlived angle between John Cena and Cryme Tyme and his thoughts on JBL , JJ asks about the Lita Retirement segment from Unforgiven and how she felt about the angle, Shad talks about the split of Cryme Tyme and thoughts on WWE's creative ideas for the fued, his future in wrestling and if MMA is an option, also Shad discussed his frustration with a very popular video game.
